The India U-19 team will resume their World Cup title defence with a match against Ireland next. Having lost the ACC U-19 Asia Cup semi-final to Bangladesh last year, India scripted a resounding comeback in their tournament opener with a convincing win against their Asian opponents. They beat the Asian Champions by 84 runs, announcing their advent in the ongoing tournament. The match started with Bangladesh winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. A 76-run knock from Adarsh Singh and another 64-run knock from skipper Uday Saharan helped India cross the 250-run mark. In the second innings, Saumy Kumar Pandey was in brilliant form to dismiss four Bangladesh batters to help curb the side at just 167 runs. The defending World Champions will now be looking to repeat the same against Ireland next.
India U-19’s second World Cup match will be hosted at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, South Africa on Thursday, January 25.
Ireland U-19 began their tournament with a win against the United States. They beat the Americans by seven wickets before conceding a six-wicket loss against Bangladesh in their second game of the competition.
