Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal Actress Reem Shaikh Talks About Unfair Treatments On Sets
Reem Shaikh shares that she is often paid less than other lead actors on set and makers do not even take her feedback into consideration.

Reem Shaikh is a popular name in the Indian television industry. The actress has been part of some successful shows over the years. She started as a child actress in series such as Chakravartin Ashok Samrat and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and eventually went on to play the lead in daily soaps. Reem was last seen in the 2023 show Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal. In her latest interview, the actress shared that while she has been in the industry for a long time, the journey has not been easy.

In conversation with Pinkvilla, Reem Shaikh shared that she has often been treated unfairly on sets since she was young. The actress stated, “Even after working for around fifteen years in the industry, I still strive to get the same respect as other leads of a show who are older than me. I feel that’s unfair, I’m also a lead of the show and the team should treat me with the same respect on the sets. But many times, because I’m young, people take me for granted.”

Reem added that she has been working since the age of six, and if that is taken into account, she has the same years of experience when compared to the other senior actors she works with. The actress expresses that still she has to struggle to earn little respect from people on sets. She mentioned, “I am not saying that I’m your only lead, but at least I’m one of the faces of the show, a little respect is what I’m demanding. I didn’t feel respected. This leaves me stressed and unmotivated.”

Sharing more about the unfair treatment she has received on sets. Reem mentioned that the pay scale differs considerably, and others get paid much higher than her. She added that many times higher authorities from production houses came on set, met other actors, and left. They do not consider it important to take her opinion or feedback. The actress said, “They should’ve felt, ‘Yeh toh bachi hai, isse kya puchna’. (She is a child, what’s the point of asking her?)” Further, she pointed out that she was not given a single-door vanity van, a provision available for other leads.

Reem mentioned that she is often not given credit for her hard work, as people assume that since she is young, she is guided by the director or others on set. However, the actress is hopeful that these biases will eventually stop.

On the work front, Reem Shaikh is set to be a part of an upcoming series featuring Jennifer Winget and Karan Wahi.
