Air India Express: Kolkata-Bhubaneswar Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due to Technical Issue
Mid-air scare on Kolkata-Bhubaneswar flight prompts emergency landing in Kolkata due to technical issue; passengers safe, alternate flight arranged.

A fully-loaded Air India Express plane heading to Bhubaneshwar from Kolkata had to return mid-air for an emergency landing at Kolkata airport.

Passengers reported hearing a loud bursting sound around 5:40 pm while the flight was in the air.

Sandipan Basu Mullick, a passenger on the Kolkata-Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru flight I5 1563, described the frightening experience, stating, “There was a sound similar to something bursting, and then the aircraft began to experience turbulence. The air hostesses instructed everyone to wear their seatbelts. The situation was scary,” as reported by TOI.

After a few tense moments, the pilot announced a “technical snag” in the aircraft engine and decided to return to Kolkata for an emergency check. The flight landed safely at Kolkata airport at 6:05 pm, where teams of engineers, airline staff, and airport officials quickly attended to the situation.

Passengers were asked to remain calm inside the aircraft for about 45 minutes as officials conducted checks, and fire tenders and ambulances approached. Eventually, passengers were escorted out of the aircraft to the terminal.

Despite initial difficulties in calming down passengers, airline staff managed to arrange an alternate flight, which took off at 8 pm with all passengers on board. An Air India Express spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience caused, assuring passengers of the airline’s unwavering commitment to safety and security.
