Viral Fever Season: Symptoms To Watch Out For and Precautions To Take
Awareness and timely medical attention are key to overcoming the challenges posed by the viral fever season.

The viral fever season, an annual occurrence, ushers in a wave of illness and discomfort. Characterized by symptoms like high fever, body aches, and fatigue, it poses a considerable health challenge. Crowded spaces and changing weather often contribute to its rapid spread. Adequate precautions such as regular handwashing, maintaining hygiene, and avoiding close contact with the infected are essential. Vaccinations for preventable viral infections play a crucial role in minimizing the impact of this season on public health. Awareness and timely medical attention are key to overcoming the challenges posed by the viral fever season.

Dr Mukesh Batra, Padma Shri Recipient, Founder and Chairman, Dr Batra’s Group of Companies, says, “A spike in viral fever episodes is cause for concern, especially during certain seasons or epidemics. LocalCircles collected over 19,000 replies from inhabitants of Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, and Karnataka in a poll about the recent viral wave. According to the findings, 16% of Maharashtra families, 21% of Delhi NCR households, and 33% of Karnataka households currently have one or more individuals with viral or COVID-like symptoms.”

Dr Mohammed Idris Shariff, Connect and Heal, Academy of Family Physicians of India, adds, “The recent spike of viral fevers has been touted popularly as dengue-like illness but not dengue. The reason for this is that though the symptoms look like dengue, the tests are negative. Experts believe that this is due to evolving virus capabilities.”

Dr Batra shares common symptoms of viral fever:

  1. A rising body temperature is a common sign. It may come and go or last for a few weeks. Very high fever not responding to paracetamol (dosage as per your weight)
  2. Persistent headaches are frequently related with viral fevers.
  3. Experiencing exceedingly fatigued or weak is a common complaint.
  4. Muscular and joint pains can be excruciating.
  5. Cough, runny or stuffy nose, and sore throat are all possible signs of viral fever
  6. Dehydration causing severe weakness and altered consciousness

Homoeopathic drugs are quite effective in treating viral fever. “Gelsemium is an excellent Homoeopathic remedy for viral fever with thirstlessness. Belladonna is the finest Homoeopathic medicine for sudden chills with flushed face redness and Rhus Tox is effective for viral fevers with severe body aches,” shares Dr Batra.

Exercise caution in kids less than 10yrs of age and older people especially those with diabetes.

Dr Shariff shares ways to stay safe:

  1. Protecting yourself and your family from mosquito bites
  2. Avoid taking other medicines apart from paracetamol without a doctor’s examination and prescription.
  3. Try to see a doctor physically and avoid tele/video consulting when feeling more than mildly sick.
  4. Hydrate well, eat a well-balanced diet and get some rest.
  5. Whenever in doubt reach out to your family doctor immediately.
  6. Individuals must wash their hands often with soap and water to avoid catching a viral fever or use hand sanitizers.
