WATCH: Ollie Pope Misses Out on a Double-hundred as Bumrah Cleans Up ENG Vice-captain for 196
Jasprit Bumrah managed to get the set batter in Ollie Pole who was dismissed on 196, missing out on a deserved double-century in slow Indian conditions.

On Day 4 of the first Test, England vice-captain, Ollie Pope was finally dismissed on 196 off 278 deliveries by Jasprit Bumrah as England were finally all-out for 420 runs and taking the lead by 231 runs in the second innings.

Pope registered his second-highest score in Tests but missed out on his second double-century. He looked to play the reverse-lap shot over the slips, a shot that he had played a lot yesterday and had a very good success rate with. But this time it did not turn out well for him as the slower delivery from Jasprit Bumrah deceived the batter which made him missz as the ball went crashing onto the stumps.

The English batter came in at Number three as the away side were facing a crushing defeat against India to begin their tour. But Pope against all odds managed to take the game away from the Indian attack forming partnerships with several batters to help them get a 200-plus run lead to keep them alive in the Test. His partnership with wicketkeeper-batter, Ben Foakes who scored 34, took the game away from the Indian side with the pair being able to add on a gritty 112-run stand.

Pope also became the fourth-highest run-scorer in the second innings of a Test against India by a visiting batter as well as surpassing former Pakistan cricketer, Saeed Anwar’s knock of 188*

England however will be happy with the target they set considering that Root, Bairstow and skipper Stokes were not able to get some runs on the board, unlike the other specialist batters.

India now will have a task at hand with the target of 214 allowing England to be hopeful of a win provided they can match the potency of the India spin-attack. England have also been dealt with another blow as their lead spinner, Jack Leach was not seen on the field for England’s bowling innings today as the player has picked up an injury.

India will now look to chase down the total and take the lead in the series as they will be expected to maintain their dominant record at home despite being rattled by the brilliance of Pope.
