The match between Real Madrid and Deportivo Alaves took place today, December 22. The first half of the game was rather uneventful as both teams remained goalless in the opening 45 minutes. The tide changed completely in the second half after Nacho was sent off in the 54th minute by a straight red.

Even though they missed a man for almost the entire second half, Real were able to hold on to a 0-0 scoreline. In the dying stages of the game, Toni Kroos was able to send in the perfect ball for Lucas Vasquez who did not disappoint with the finish securing a hard-fought 1-0 win. Madrid’s victory have now taken them to the top of the La Liga table above Girona, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid will play their next league fixture in 2023 at the Santiago Bernabeu against Mallorca. They now look in a prime position to dethrone Barcelona as the reigning Spanish champions.
