UP Police Acts As Peacemaker, Brings Upset Groom Back To Wedding Ceremony

Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district dominated the headlines recently for a bizarre news. A fight broke out between the bride and the groom’s relatives. This happened during a wedding organised at the Aksa Marriage Lawn, Faridpur, Kotwali Bindki area on January 30. The groom named Ranjeet Kumar’s procession arrived at the wedding hall from Dhakoli village, Radha Nagar Police Station area. While dancing at the event, there was a minor altercation between the two sides that soon escalated into a fight. People suffered injuries during the fighting. The people from the groom’s side were infuriated by this turn of events and returned abruptly without completing the wedding rituals. The bride’s father informed the Joniha outpost in charge regarding this matter. The sub-inspector Alok Tiwari, Joniha police outpost’s in-charge, assured the aggrieved side that they would look into their matter. They reached out to the groom’s family and succeeded in convincing them to return to the venue and solemnise the wedding ceremony. The police have earned accolades for their unconventional role as peacemaker as the 22-year-old bride’s wedding faced setbacks.

Kotwali Bindki CO Sushil Mishra told a news portal that on January 30 night there was a dispute between the bride and groom’s family in a guest house located in Faridpur. He said that the police reached the venue, and managed to solve the dispute between both parties and then the marriage happened. The bride’s father, identified as Raj Bahadur, had expressed gratitude to the police team for helping at his daughter’s wedding. The policemen and the other officials were present at the wedding venue until all the rituals were completed.

Social media users came up with different reactions to this incident. One of the users commented that the woman should have called off the wedding ceremony, seeing the groom’s behaviour. Another wrote that the girl had a bad match. Some justified the behaviour of the groom’s side, while others appreciated the work done by the police. Few, however, didn’t admire the interference of the administration in such issues. One of the users commented that the police will next interfere in the other family disputes as well.
