The federation wants coach del Bosque to remain in charge despite the titleholders' stunning elimination from the World Cup after just two matches.
The Spanish Football Federation says it wants national coach Vicente del Bosque to remain in charge despite the titleholders' stunning elimination from the World Cup after just two matches.
Federation director Jorge Perez tells Cope Radio "if he wants to go, we'll persuade him to stay. He is the ideal man to lead the transition the selection needs."
The 63-year-old Del Bosque is under contract through 2016, but said after Spain's second loss in as many games in Brazil that "we will need time to find what's best for Spanish football, and that includes me."
Del Bosque guided Spain to World Cup glory in 2010 and helped it successfully defend its European title in 2012.
Spain will play Australia on Monday.
