TIRUCHY: An AIADMK area secretary, ‘Cable’ C Sekar, was hacked to death in broad daylight by a six-member gang here on Friday.Preliminary investigations reveal that the murder was due to a family dispute between Sekar and the family of his brother.According to sources, the gang attacked Sekar (48), also the Ponmalai AIADMK secretary, around 10.30 am, when he was returning to his house on his two-wheeler after having a cup of tea at a shop behind his house at Thideer Nagar in Ariyamangalam. The six-member gang reportedly followed Sekar up to his house in an Omni van and surrounded him. One of the gang members then took out an aruval (sickle) and assaulted him. When Sekar tried to resist, he suffered cut injuries on his right hand.Before he could react further, the other members of the gang encircled him and started attacking him with sharp weapons seriously injuring him on his head, face, neck and hands. Sekar, fell on the ground, following which the gang pierced his neck with a sharp weapon. On spotting people rushing to the spot, the gang fled the spot, leaving him in an open drain. Sekar was taken to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Subsequently, his body was taken to the GH. Manikandan, a friend of Sekar, said he was unable to digest the fact that Sekar had been killed as had been chatting with him just 10 minutes ago at the tea stall. On information, Minister for HR & CE and Law and District Secretary (Rural) M Paranjothi, MLA and District Secretary (Urban) R Manoharan, Mayor A Jaya and others visited the GH and consoled Sekar’s wife Kayalvizhi, who is councillor for Ward 29. Security has been beefed up in the area following the incident. City Commissioner of Police E Ma Masanamuthu said initial investigations revealed that it was a family dispute between Sekar and the family of his brother. Three special teams led by Assistant Commissioner VR Srinivasan had been formed, he said and assured that the culprits would be arrested soon.
