The long-awaited double-decker flyover from Bengaluru‘s Ragigudda to Central Silk Board junction was inaugurated by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
This new rail-cum-road flyover, costing Rs 449 crore, is now open for vehicles and features loops and ramps for smooth traffic flow.
Calling it a “historic” moment for Bengaluru, Shivakumar mentioned plans to build 150 km of flyovers and signal-free corridors to reduce the city’s infamous traffic jams.
This double-decker signal-free flyover is located near the Central Silk Board junction, intersecting both the Outer Ring Road and Hosur Road. It spans 5.12 km from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board, aiming to provide signal-free travel from Ragigudda to HSR Layout and Hosur Road. The project promises to cut travel time by more than 30 percent for commuters heading towards K R Pura and Hosur Road.
While the main flyover is operational, the ramps connecting HSR Layout, Ragigudda, and BTM Layout are still under construction and expected to be ready by June 2025, according to The Indian Express.
The double-decker flyover features a Metro line on the upper deck while the lower deck is for vehicular traffic. The Metro project is part of the Reach 5 Line under Phase-2, connecting R V Road to Bommasandra, covering 19.15 km with 16 stations. It includes two interchange stations, with one at Jayadeva Junction boasting a road underpass, road flyover, Reach 5-line Metro platform, and Reach 6-line Metro platform.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials announced that the Yellow Line is expected to be operational by year-end, starting with at least eight trains running every 15 minutes.
The second train for the Yellow Line is set to arrive by August 15. Major civil and system works are almost complete, and prototype testing of new trains is underway.
