BMW India is now accepting bookings for the all-electric i5, available both online and at dealerships across the country.
This move comes as the company prepares to introduce the i5 in limited numbers as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) model. Deliveries are set to start from May 2024, and it’s first-come-first-served!
Globally, the BMW i5 offers two variants – eDrive 40 and M60 xDrive. The M60 xDrive boasts impressive power with electric motors on each axle, delivering a combined output of 601 bhp and 820 Nm of torque. This setup enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.8 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 230kph. Unlike the eDrive 40, the M60 xDrive variant features BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system as standard.
While the traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) 5 Series will come in long-wheelbase form, the i5 will exclusively offer the standard wheelbase configuration, as per the Press Release.
Equipped with an 81.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the India-bound M60 xDrive variant of the i5 boasts a WLTP-certified range of up to 516km on a single charge. Additionally, it comes with an 11kW AC charger as standard, upgradable to 22kW with an optional onboard charger. The electric sedan also supports 205kW DC charging, allowing for a 10-80 percent charge in just 30 minutes, as claimed by BMW.
While BMW has not disclosed the pricing for the i5 M60 xDrive yet, it is anticipated to be significantly higher than its ICE counterpart, likely surpassing the Rs 1 crore mark upon launch. Despite the absence of direct competitors, the i5 is expected to garner substantial interest in the Indian market.
