India to Host the 17th Edition of the Volleyball Club World Championships in Bengaluru
India is set to host the 2023 edition of the Men's Club World Championships in Bengaluru where they will compete with the top clubs from the world.

A variety of global stars from volleyball are set to come together when they compete in the Men’s Club World Championships, in 2023. This is the first time it is being hosted in India and will be a four-day event from December 6-10.

The top six clubs will be playing 10 matches split across five days at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium.

Representing India the Ahmedabad Defenders will be competing in the tournament.

The defenders managed to secure their spot in the marquee tournament after their victory in the second season of the Volleyball League, earlier this year.

Other than the Indian side, the tournament will also have Sir Safety Susa Pergua from Italy, Sada Cruzeiro Volei and Minas Tenis Clube representing Brazil, Suntory Sunbirds Club from Japan, and the Halkbank Spor Kulubu from Turkey who will be competing for the title.

The President of the International Volley Federation (FIVB), Ary Graca mentioned in a statement, “The competition will see the best clubs on the planet come together in India for the first time ever. Their incredible display of sporting excellence will be a treat for the fans.”

In the previous edition of the tournament which was hosted in Betim, Brazil in 2022, the Italian club Sir Safety Susa Pergua managed to get their hands on the trophy by defeating another Italian club, Trentino Volley with a scoreline reading 3-1.

The Brazillian club, Sada Cruzeiro had finished as the second runners-up having defeated another Brazillian club, Itambe Minas with a scorecard reading 3-1 as well.

Another interesting fact is that no club from the Asian Volleyball Confederation has yet won the title to date. Sides from India and Japan will be eyeing their first win but it will not be an easy affair considering the track record of clubs in the European Volleyball Confederation who have had a total of 13 titles in the history of the competition, the most by a single confederation as well.
