One of the notorious mafia or ‘bahubali’ of Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal, gangster Mukhtar Ansari died on Thursday, March 28. As per reports, he suffered a heart attack late at night and died during treatment. His death is shrouded in mystery as his parents alleged that the accused had been ‘slow poisoned’ to death in the jail. He had over 100 criminal cases filed against him. The name Mukhtar Ansari has been resonating with various crimes like land grabbing, high-profile murder cases, kidnappings, extortion, hired killings and much more. Apart from ruling the crime world, he also joined politics and became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Did you know there was a web series made on him?

Ritam Srivastava released the web series Raktanchal on May 28, 2020, on MX Player. The series is inspired by the real-life events from the 80s of two notable mafias, Atiq Ahmed and Mukhtar Ansari in Purvanchal, of east Uttar Pradesh. The web series is headlined by Kranti Prasad Jha and also stars Kenisha Awasthi, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer and Vikram Kochhar to name a few. Apart from them, Ronjini Chakraborty, Chittaranjan Tripathy and Pramod Pathak also appeared in key roles.

Reportedly, Raktanchal is counted among the top hit series on MX Player and has received a 6.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb. After the first season of the series garnered much attention and hype, the makers released the second instalment as well.

The web series highlights organised crime in the 80s and the dominance of the gangsters in Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh. It also showcased how these small-time goons roamed the streets free despite several criminal pending cases and also gaining the position of a politician. While the series claimed that all the characters and the events of the series were fictional, the incidents and the plot of organised crime were inspired by the real-life of these two mafias, especially, Mukhtar Ansari. He was the emerging crime mafia in that area during the 80s. After its premiers, the series received positive reviews from viewers and critics alike. From the plot to the casting and performance, the audience was quite impressed with Raktanchal.
