Mumbai: The markets closed marginally in the red on the Future & Options settlement day. The Sensex closed at 11,699.05 down 24.87 points. The Nifty closed at 3414 down 16 points.
The BSE Small Cap Index lost 71 points to close at 5,778.99.
The BSE Midcap Index closed at 4,798.07 down 43 points.
The BSE FMCG Index closed was up 0.8 per cent at 2,029.65. Nestle, ITC closed in green.
The BSE Health Care Index gained 0.2 per cent at 3,538.50. Aventis Pharma, GSK Pharma, Cipla, Ranbaxy Labs, Wyeth and Ipca Labs gained.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 1.1 per cent at 5,661.62. GAIL, BPCL, HPCL, Kochi Refineries, Chennai Petro, MRPL, Reliance, Petronet LNG and ONGC slipped.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,944.95 down 0.7 per cent. Hind Motors, Exide Industries, Bharat Forge, Amtek Auto, Escorts, TVS Motor, Sundaram-Clayton and Cummins were among the losers.
The BSE Capital Goods Index lost 0.8 per cent at 7,714.98. HEG, Praj Industries, Ingersoll Rand, Thermax, BEML closed lower.
The BSE Metal Index lost 1.6 per cent at 8,094.18. SAIL, Sesa Goa, Hind Zinc, Tata Steel, Welspun Guj, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Steel and Nalco witnessed selling pressure.
The BSE IT Index closed flat at 4,286.42 and the BSE Bankex was also flat at 5,308.01.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7852.16 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 36048.28 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2758 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 46658.44 crore.
