Ahmedabad: Maruti Suzuki Chairman and Chief Executive Osamu Suzuki will be meeting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. Suzuki is on a two-day visit to the state and will be in Hansalpur in Ahmedabad to check out the site for the proposed 4,000 crore plant.

The company is expected to begin work on the project, its first outside Haryana, very soon.

Country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) plans to pump in Rs 4,000 crore - its biggest investment outside Haryana - by 2015-16. The overall capacity in the first phase will be 2.5 lakh units.

Besides MSI, component suppliers are likely to make an equal amount of investment in the state. Suzuki's India visit from August 22 coincides with MSI resuming production at its violence-hit Manesar plant in Haryana on August 21.

After the violence at Manesar plant, there was a speculation that MSI may shift to Gujarat. However, the company had already made it clear that there was no such plan to shift Manesar facility to Gujarat.

Suzuki's visit to Gujarat follows Modi's trip to Japan last month seeking investment from Japanese companies. The state government has already allotted two parcels of land to MSI, measuring 160 hectares 70 hectares.

An exclusive vendor park for Japanese industrial houses is also proposed near Mandal.
