Railways earnings up 15 per cent
Total goods earning up from Rs 1042.18 crore during December 2005 11-20 to Rs 1189.03 crore.

New Delhi: The Railways on Tuesday reported an increase of 14.63 per cent in its revenue earnings, on originating basis, during the period 11th December-December 20, 2006 at Rs 1705.78 crore compared to Rs 1488.09 crore during the same period last year.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 1042.18 crore during 11-20 December 2005 to Rs 1189.03 crore during 11-20 December 2006, showing an increase of 14.09 per cent, while the total passenger revenue earnings during the period were Rs 460.61 crore compared to Rs 401.13 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 14.83 per cent, an official release said.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 42.73 crore during this period compared to Rs 33.02 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 29.41 per cent.

Total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 11-20 December 2006 stood at 185.39 million compared to 171.38 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 8.17 per cent.
