When the lockout was lifted the workers union had said they would not return to work if the company imposed conditions on them.

Bangalore: Production at the passenger car manufacturing plant of Toyota Kirloskar Motor in Bangalore is yet to become normal.

But the employees' union has now launched a hunger strike to protest the suspension of 27 employees during the recent strike.

The employees had gone on to protest the dismissal of three of their collegues on disciplinary grounds with the company declaring a lockout on the January 8 due to labour unrest.

A workers' union representative had said the workers had no option but to return to work because the Karnataka Government had banned strikes under the Essential Services Act.

When the lockout was lifted the Toyota workers union had said that they would not return to work if the company imposed conditions on them.

The union representative had added that if the management insisted on getting a good conduct declaration from them, they will refuse to report for work and will seek the government's intervention.

Toyota Kirloskar, however, termed the union's refusal to sign the good conduct declaration "irresponsible."

Toyota has 89 per cent stake and the rest is owned by the Kirloskar Group.

The plant has a capacity to make 60,000 cars per year.
