New Delhi: Dinesh Trivedi, facing flak from the his own party the Trinamool Congress for increasing passenger fares in the Railway Budget, arrived in Parliament to attend the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. Trivedi has been asked to step down as the Railway Minister by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, but according to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee he still remains a minister as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is yet to receive his resignation letter.
After arriving in Parliament Trivedi said that he had come to attend the Question Hour as only a minister could answer on the budget.
"I am doing my duty, I have to answer questions. It is the minister who answers the questions during the discussion on the budget. I have come here to reply to questions," said Trivedi.
Earlier, Trivedi told a Bengali news channel on Thursday morning that he had not resigned yet. "I have not resigned yet, but if the party wants then I will. Mamata made me the railway minister, she may choose to remove me," Trivedi told the channel.
He said that it would have been better if the Trinamool Congress had spoken to him directly about the Railway Budget instead of going public.
Self respecting people may not come to politics any more. It's a decision of the party and I have nothing to say about it," he replied when asked about Mamata asking the Prime Minister to sack him from the Union Ministry.
