James Anderson wrapped up his decorated Test career after England beat the West Indies by an innings and 12 runs at Lord’s on July 12. Anderson donned the whites for England in 188 matches since making his Test debut in 2003. The legendary packer has picked 704 wickets in the longest format– the most by any fast bowler in history.
After his last match, many from the global cricket fraternity paid tribute to Anderson via social media posts. One of them was Babar Azam, who branded the 41-year-old Englishman as a GOAT while referring to his remarkable Test career.
Babar initially made an error while writing the post for Anderson.
“It was a privilege to face your cutters, Jimmy! The beautiful game will now miss one of its greatest. Your incredible service to the sport has been nothing short of remarkable. Huge respect for you, GOAT,” the Pakistan captain posted from his social media handles. Babar soon rectified his mistake and changed “cutter” to “swing” in a fresh post.

Some eagle-eyed fans, however, had already saved a screenshot of his previous caption. One fan humorously commented, “It is a privilege to face Babar Azam’s reverse swing.”

Another person shed light on Pakistan’s failure in recent big tournaments, a person noted, “Not only Asia Cups and World Cups, Babar Azam even bottled a rigged farewell post for Jimmy Anderson.”

James Anderson collected the last wicket of his Test career by dismissing West Indies’Joshua Da Silva on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test.
Reflecting on his long journey in red-ball cricket, Anderson said, “It’s been an amazing 20 years. Overwhelming to see the crowd’s reaction. It has been pretty special. Every time I wear this shirt I try to win games for England.”
England will certainly miss the legendary speedster when they take on the Caribbean unit for the second Test on July 18 at Trent Bridge.
