Virat Kohli received a warm reception as he arrived at the team Hotel in Kanpur ahead of India’s 2nd Test against Bangladesh. The next Test is scheduled to begin on Friday, September 27 at the Green Park Stadium.
Kohli reached the hotel along with Rishabh Pant and the head coach Gautam Gambhir. As soon as Kohli entered the hotel lobby, the talismanic batter was swarmed by a sea of people. He was given the traditional Indian welcome before his stay at the hotel.
A clip of his reception was shared on X (formerly Twitter). “Virat Kohli’s warm Welcome at the Team Hotel in Kanpur Today!” the post read.

The video began with Virat Kohli being greeted by hotel staff near the entry point. He was rolling with a white round-neck t-shirt, a pair of black trousers and a backpack. A staff member soon applied a ‘tilak’ on Kohli’s forehead as he entered. Kohli was then handed bouquets, presents and a ‘rudraksh.’ After the brief welcome ceremony, the 35-year-old proceeded inside the building.
Another clip of Virat Kohli’s arrival at the team Hotel in Kanpur has taken by storm. Typically known to be a fan favourite, Kohli often takes time out to meet and greet his supporters. But the Indian batter seemed to be a little overwhelmed with all the welcome he received at the hotel as he turned down a handshake.
When a bouquet was handed to the cricketer, the former India skipper was forced to refuse a handshake request from a hotel authority. The batter humbly stated that his hands were full and said, “Sir 2 hi haanth hain, [Sir, I have only got two hands].” Kohli instantly made up for his with a ‘thank you’ before leaving.
Virat Kohli was not in an impressive form in the opening Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. He had missed the England series earlier this year due to the birth of his son Akaay. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Kohli was dismissed for scores of six and 17 across the two innings for India. Fortunately, it did not stop India from thumping Bangladesh as the hosts won the Test series opener by 280 runs.
Virat Kohli will now be looking to make amendments as he eyes the elusive 30th-century landmark in Test cricket. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid have scored more than 30 tons for India in red-ball cricket.
