'He's The GOAT': India Wicketkeeper-batter Brands Rohit Sharma Greatest of All Time
Youngster in awe of Rohit Sharma's rich batting talents as he recalls his interaction with India captain ahead of Test debut.

Plenty of Rohit Sharma’s peers have raved about his incredible timing with even Virat Kohli, himself a batting great, fawning over his ability to do so. Waxing lyrical over his India teammate’s astonishing talent, Kohli once claimed Rohit gets one-and-a-half seconds extra than everyone else to watch and time the ball.

And it’s a sentiment shared by the next generation too with wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel branding Rohit as The GOAT.

Jub TV par dekhte the lagta tha bohot time hai (lagta tha) but jub saamne say dekha toh pata chal ki jis ball par hum struggle kar rahe hain, wo aaram say pick up kar rahe hain. Pull shot toh famous hai he bhaiya ka. He’s the GOAT. (When I watched him on TV, we thought he’s got a lot of time but when you watch him bat live, you realise that the deliveries you are struggling against, he’s picking them nicely. Everybody knows about his famous pull shot),” Jurel said on JioCinema.

Jurel made his India Test debut earlier this year during a five-match series at home under the captaincy of Rohit and made instant impact with his wicketkeeping and batting.  He scored 190 runs across four innings including a best of 90 besides effecting seven dismissals.

The 23-year-old Jurel revealed how a day before he was to make his Test debut, Rohit’s brief chat made him comfortable.

“A day before my debut, he spoke to me and made me feel relaxed. I told him there’s a little nervousness. He said I deserve to be here, it’s all chill. Then when we met in a lift once, he advised me to bat without any inhibitions,” Jurel said.

Jurel has been picked in India’s squad for the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai but it’s unlikely he will make the playing XI this time around considering Rishabh Pant is back having recovered from a car crash in 2022.

The first Test starts from September 19.
