While for a team to finish at the top of the table in any tournament is always beneficial as the road for them in the tournament becomes a bit easy; however, the pre-tournament seedings for the T20 World Cup 2024 have somewhat skewed that concept.
With India and Australia sealing their Super 8 spots with the former winning against the USA and the latter vs Namibia, it now does not matter whether both teams finish first or second in their respective groups, they will eventually find themselves in the same Group in Super 8 and will clash against each other on June 24.
And this scenario arises because ICC had already decided on the Super 8 seedings of the team and irrespective of India’s position in Group A, they will finish as AI and go straight to Group 1 and Australia, once again, irrespective of where they finish in their Group will be B2, meaning they will also play the Super 8 in Group 1.
How many teams have Qualified for Super 8 so far
So Far, India, Australia, South Africa, and West Indies have sealed their Super 8 spots, with four more spots up for grabs as the ICC T20 World Cup heads into its final week of league games.
India vs Australia, Super 8 Match Details
The India vs Australia Super 8, Group 1 match will be played on June 24 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
T20 World Cup matches at St Lucia will begin on June 16 with Australia vs Scotland followed by Netherlands vs Sri Lanka and West Indies vs Afghanistan. This will be followed by 3 Super 8 matches, including the India vs Australia one.
Australia have played 9 T20I games at this ground winning five and losing four, while India have played 3 T20Is at ST Lucia winning two and losing one.
