'I Hope Zorawar Gets to Know...': Shikhar Dhawan's Wish For His Son After Retirement
Shikhar Dhawan announced he's retiring from international and domestic cricket earlier on Saturday.

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan wishes for his son to be aware of his retirement and cricket journey. Dhawan has in the past explained how he’s not able to get in contact with his son since getting divorce from his ex-wife Ayesha Mukherjee. The 38-year-old has brought an end to his stellar playing career and is now looking forward to the next phase of his life.

“Zorawar is 11 now,” Dhawan told Hindustan Times. “I hope he gets to know about my retirement and all about my cricket journey. But more than as a cricketer, I would like for Zorawar to remember me as a good human being who does good deeds and brings positivity to people around him.”

Dhawan scored over 10,000 runs in international cricket since making his debut in 2010. He was part of India’s successful campaign at the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

While Dhawan represented India in Tests and T20Is as well, it was in ODIs that he created his name especially in the ICC tournaments where he averaged just over 65.

Dhawan has no regrets from his career and says he achieved everything he could given his potential.

“Nothing at all. I achieved 100% of my potential. I played all three formats — test, ODI and T20 for my country and gave my best. I feel complete, I am at ease now,” he said.

Dhawan says he would love for actor Akshay Kumar to portray him in his biopic.

“I would love it (biopic), only if it is made well. As for me acting in it, I would happily do it in case I added any value to the film. As for other actors, I would love for Akshay paaji to do it, or even Ranveer Singh, for the sheer energy he has,” he said.

Cricketers often transition to commentary and coaching post their playing careers but Dhawan has no such plans as of now.

“I am already making a good return through my ventures but…Of course, the option to do commentary, etc. is always there for me because of my expertise. But I want to try and do something new and bigger. I want to jump high, and I am not afraid of falling,” he said.
