Ahead of Team India’s second Test against Bangladesh, a curator at the Green Park Stadium has suggested that the pitch that is going to be used will have something for both spinners and pacers alike.
The Test which is set to take place on Friday will see India look to stamp their authority yet again and claim a series sweep with a win in Kanpur.
According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), Shiv Kumar, a curator has suggested that the pitch would be something closer to that of the previous Test in Chennai. There the pacers were seen getting assistance in terms of bounce with the new ball while the spinners came into play as the days went by.
“There will be that Chennai match feeling. It will have something for everyone. It will offer bounce in the first two sessions and it will be pretty good for batting for the first two days. Then, the spinners will come into play on the last three days,” curator Shiv Kumar was quoted as saying.
In the red soil track in Chennai, India managed to register a mammoth win by 280 runs thanks to the all-round show by the local hero, Ravichandran Ashwin. He stole the show in front of his home crowd by scoring a crucial century in the first innings followed by a six-wicket haul with the ball in the second innings as well.
The report suggests that the black soil which is being used to prepare the pitch in Kanpur has been sourced from the Kali Mitti village near Unnao, which is 23 kilometres from Kanpur.
“We get this soil tested from the Indian Institute of Technology. It’s a special soil that is found near a pond in village Kali Mitti. It (bringing black soil from the village) is a practice we have been following for years,” said a UPCA official.
Traditionally, the red soil pitches are those that offer a lot of bounce and more assistance to the quicker bowlers. Whereas the black soil pitchers tend to be flatter and offer more turn to the spinners due to the wear and tear as well.
The Indian team have retained the same squad as in the 1st Test and will have the bowling options necessary to tackle any conditions whatsoever.
