As Team India claimed a win against Bangladesh on the first Test that took place in Chennai, Rohit Sharma hailed the team’s bowling unit for getting the job done for the side.
The Indian captain believes that the side has the arsenal of weapons needed to tackle any condition be it at home or away.
“No matter what the conditions are, whether we play in India, whether we play outside, we want to build the team around (bowling). Whatever the condition has to offer, we got to be ready for it,” Rohit Sharma commented after the match.
Rohit also credited the bowlers for taking up the responsibility when the side needed it. Ravichandran Ashwin was the star at his home ground as he struck a century in the first innings followed by a six-wicket haul in the second innings as well.
“In the last few years, wherever we have played, we have managed to have that in our armoury, whether it is seam bowling options or spin bowling options. You have to give credit to the guys, whenever there is a responsibility, they never shy away from it and they want to put their hand up and get the job done for the team,” Rohit said after the win.
Speaking on the conditions in Chennai, the red soil track at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium proved to be a challenge, particularly for the senior batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they both did not have an eventful outing.
“The red soil pitch always has something to offer. You need to have a little bit of patience as well. You don’t see much happening straightaway. This was a pitch where we had to show a lot of patience whether we bat or bowl. We were patient enough with the bat to get those big runs and then with the ball as well we were patient enough to hit the right areas and put them under pressure consistently,” the opener said.
The second and final Test of the series will be played at Kanpur’s Green Park on September 27. This will be followed by a three-match Test series at home against New Zealand after which the Indian team would tour to Australia to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
