Rohit Sharma Misses a Century but Breaks Yuvraj Singh's Record of Sixes Against England in 2007 T20 WC

Indian captain Rohit Sharma wreaked havoc in St Lucia when India took on Australia in their final Super 8 tie in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. After being asked to bat, India lost Kohli early but his batting partner ensured complete entertainment for the Indian fans. None of the Australian bowlers was spared as the Indian captain fired 92 runs in 42 balls before Mitchell Starc castled him in the 12^th over. Though Rohit couldn’t rescript the record for the fastest T20 World Cup hundred, he did go past the long-standing record of Yuvraj Singh.

Rohit Sharma hit 8 sixes during his stay in the crease, surpassing the former India all-rounder to set a new record for most sixes in an innings for India. Yuvraj hit 7 sixes against England in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, striking six of them in a single over – against Stuart Broad. The Indian skipper, in fact, bettered his previous best of 6 sixes in an innings, against Australia in Bridgetown in 2010.

Had Rohit reached his century within the next 5 balls, he would have broken ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest hundred in the T20 World Cup history. The former West Indies opener achieved the feat in the 2016 edition of the tournament with a 47-ball century against England in Mumbai.
