Thala Craze is Real: Noise Levels Reach 121 Decibels as MS Dhoni Enters Chepauk
MS Dhoni received a resounding reception when he walked in to bat for Chennai Super Kings during their IPL 2024 clash with Punjab Kings at Chepauk.

MS Dhoni was dismissed for the first time in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) when he was run out against Punjab Kings on Wednesday.

It was a disappointing match for Chennai Super Kings who faced a batting collapse after batting first, surrendering early in front of the opposition spinners.

The home crowd, however, was entertained by a Dhoni cameo. The former CSK captain arrived at the crease following the dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium welcomed Dhoni with a loud cheer and the sound level reportedly touching 121 decibels.

When Dhoni came down to bat, CSK were yet to breach the 150-run mark. The crowd expected the legendary Indian skipper to come up with something special.

Dhoni managed to hit one four and a six, helping the reigning champions reach a decent total of 162.

Facing the final delivery, the 42-year-old attempted to run two but fell slightly short, losing his wicket for the first time this season.

The Chepauk wicket might have assisted the spinners in the first innings but CSK bowling unit, however, failed to make the most out of it.

PBKS were composed at the start of their chase before Richard Gleeson dismissed Prabhsimran Singh in the fourth over.

Another PBKS opener, Jonny Bairstow, took time to settle. The English batter joined hands with Rilee Rossouw and the duo stitched a solid 64-run partnership.

Bairstow missed his half-century by just seven runs and his 30-ball knock comprised seven fours and a six.

When Shivam Dube got rid of Bairstow, PBKS were already in a comfortable situation. Rossouw kept the scoreboard ticking and made a quickfire 43 off 23 balls. The South African smashed five fours and two sixes.

The remaining job was completed by Sam Curran and Shashank Singh.

Both PBKS batters remained unbeaten till the end and guided their side to a victory with a 50-run stand.
