'What Better Than Finishing T20 Career with a World Cup Win': Gambhir Congratulates Rohit, Kohli
Gambhir congratulated Rohit and Virat Kohli on their T20I retirement. The duo hung up their boots in the shortest format of the game after Tam India won its second T20 World title.

Soon-to-be India head coach Gautam Gambhir paid a visit to the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple on Sunday. The former India opener and a two-time World Cup winner is the front-runner to replace Rahul Dravid as the coach of the Indian senior men’s cricket team. The BCCI has been on the lookout for the successor of Dravid whose tenure ends with Team India’s T20 World Cup triumph in the West Indies. As per reports, the board has almost zeroed in on Gambhir for the role but the official announcement is still awaited.

Meanwhile, Gambhir was spotted at the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple. He also spoke to the reporters and congratulated Rohit Sharma & Co for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the summit clash at Barbados.

“I want to congratulate Team India. I want to congratulate the entire nation that India has won the World Cup. It is for 140 crore Indians. The entire team has made the entire nation proud and the entire nation is very very happy,” Gambhir told reporters

The former cricketer also congratulated Rohit and Virat Kohli on their T20I retirement. The duo hung up their boots in the shortest format of the game after Tam India won its second T20 World title.

“See what better than finishing their T20 career with a World Cup win, it would not have been better than that, the script was written and they both are great players and they have done so much for Indian cricket, want to congratulate them and wish them all the best,” he added.

Earlier this month, New18 CricketNext had reported that Gambhir, along with former cricketer WV Raman, were interviewed by the BCCI for the head coach job. While Gambhir’s name was doing rounds as the frontrunner, Raman’s low-key entry has added a new dimension to what earlier looked like a very straightforward appointment.

Now that Dravid’s tenure ended on a high, the BCCI will soon roll out the team’s new coaching staff for the next three years.
