After his qualification, he was sent to England for training and came back to India as an IAS officer. In that period, men between the ages of 18 to 23 years were allowed to take the civil services exam. As an IAS, he was first posted in Bombay and after that, he went to Ahmedabad. Satyendranath Tagore was the elder brother of Rabindranath Tagore and was married to Jnanadanandini Devi, a social reformer.
