The new president and vice president have been elected by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on February 12. For the Council Year 2024-25, Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal will serve as the 72nd President of ICAI, while Charanjot Singh Nanda will be the accounting body’s Vice President. Earlier, Aniket Sunil Talati served as the ICAI’s president, while Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal served as vice president for the 2023–24 term.
Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal is a graduate of Calcutta University, who has been practising Chartered Accountant (CA) for the last 24 years. He was elected to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India’s central council 23rd, 24th and 25th thrice in a row. He is also a company secretary and has a Diploma in Information Systems (DISA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal has served as the Central Council Member in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) since 2016 and then he was the Vice President of ICAI in the council year 2023-24.
CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal as president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is now by virtue of his post, the Chairman of all the Standing Committees, i.e., Disciplinary, Executive, Finance, and Examination Committees, and the ex-officio members of all Non-standing Committees and Editor of ICAI Journal, The Chartered Accountant.

He also chairs the ICAI research wing Accounting Research Foundation, and Extensible Business Reporting Language, India. He is also the Director on the Board of the Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He has also chaired the ICAI’s industry and business committee, as well as the tax audit quality evaluation board. In 2019, Agarwal served as chairperson of the ICAI’s Ethical Standard Board.
Charanjot Singh Nanda, on the other hand, earned his BCom degree from Mukand Lal National College in 1987 and was placed on the Kurukshetra University merit list for all three years. Charanjot Singh Nanda was also a rank holder in the CA Inter examination, and he completed his Chartered Accountancy in 1991.
It is to be noted that Charanjot Singh Nanda was earlier appointed as a Central Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), India. He also served as chairman of the Committee on Information Technology of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), and vice chairman of the Board of Internal Audit and Management Accounting of ICA India. He was also the chairman of the Digital Accounting & Assurance Board and the Committee on Financial Markets and Investors’ Protection.
