Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan To Mid-day Meal, 5 Govt Educational Schemes For Children

Every parent dreams of getting their wards into renowned educational institutions. They, however, face a major obstacle to doing so due to an unaffordable fee. Given these circumstances, many education schemes have been introduced for school-going students by the government in India. These programmes provide financial assistance for the students to help them accomplish the objective of getting educated.

There is a provision of free education in many schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya etc by submitting the necessary documents. There is also a mechanism to provide free education to female students as well under some schemes. Here are the names of some educational programmes implemented in India.

1. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a government of India’s flagship programme which aims to achieve universal elementary education for children between 6 and 14 years. This scheme was launched in 2001-2002 in partnership with the state governments and local self-governments. It is also known as the Universalisation of Elementary Education (UEE).

2. National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level- The National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level (NPEGEL) was launched in July 2003. This scheme aims to provide education to girls hailing from the underprivileged sections of society and studying from class 1 to 8.

3. Mid-Day Meal Scheme- Under this scheme, children in government primary schools are served a meal with a minimum of 300 calories of energy. It was started on August 15, 1995, under the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE).

4. Right to Education Act- The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE) was enacted on August 4, 2009. This aims to provide free and compulsory education between the ages of 6 to 14 years in India under Article 21A of the Indian constitution.

5. National Scheme of Incentives to Girls for Secondary Education- In this scheme, Rs 3,000 is deposited in the name of eligible unmarried girls as a fixed deposit on enrolment in class IX. They are entitled to withdraw it along with interest upon reaching 18 and passing the class 10 examination.
