The result of the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE) was released recently. Through the examination this year, a total of 1,016 candidates got selected for civil services posts such as IAS, IPS and IFS. As per the commission’s norms, the selection for these services is based on the rank obtained in the Civil Services Examination. However, for services such as IPS and Indian Railway Management Service, a minimum physical qualification is mandatory to be fulfilled.
Indian Police Service (IPS) is one of the most prestigious services in the country after IAS. In this, after the selection process, one gets the chance to be recruited as a DGP in the state police and agencies like RAW and IB. Let us know about the required height and eye vision criteria mentioned by the commission that is required for IPS, Indian Railway Protection Force Services (IRPFS), and Indian Railway Management Services (IRMS).
According to the UPSC, the male candidates selected for IPS and IFS are required to have a minimum height range of 165 cm while for the female and transgender candidates, the height required is 150 cm.
On the other hand, the male candidates selected for the IRMS posts need to have a minimum height of 152 cm while for the female and transgender candidates, the height limit is 150 cm.
As per the commission, the candidates belonging to the reserved category of SC, or the residents of Gorkha, Assamese, Kumauni, and Nagaland are eligible to get a significant relaxation. Following the relaxation, the male candidates from these mentioned categories will have a minimum height range of 160 cm while for the female and transgender candidates, the required height will be 145 cm.
The job profiles offered after being selected in the UPSC CSE examination also require a required criterion of eyesight. As per the commission, for IPS, a vision of 6/6 or 6/9 is considered to be eligible for various posts.
