Why This JEE Advanced 2020 Topper Rejected IIT For MIT

Getting admission into an IIT is the dream of millions of students in India. Students aim to get into the top engineering colleges in India after cracking the IIT and IIT Advanced exams. Touted to be one of the toughest exams in the world, the IIT exams dishearten lakhs of students every year. However, there are some students, who get into IITs with hard work.

Chirag Falor from Pune, appeared for the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams in 2020. He secured 12th rank in JEE Main and topped the JEE Advanced. His score was 352 out of 396 in the Advanced. Interestingly, he also scored 100 percentile in the Mains.

Chirag not only passed the IIT entrance exam in 2020 but also secured admission to one of the world’s most prestigious universities, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US. He was among just five Indian students admitted to MIT in 2020.

In an interview, he said, “I used to attend MIT classes online during the night and then prepare for IIT exams in the day. I prepared four years for the JEE exams.” He also added that JEE has a vast syllabus. On the other hand, MIT examines the candidates’ personalities and potential. It checks the analytical power and leverage skills of the candidates.

Chirag Falor also revealed why he chose MIT over JEE. According to him, first-year students can start researching in the first year of college, under the leadership of the faculty, which is not possible at IITs. Most importantly, he shared that 95 alumni and faculty members of MIT have received the Nobel Prize. Moreover, his interest in Astrophysics drove him towards MIT. He once revealed that wanted to gather knowledge and come back to ISRO or go to NASA to be a part of the Mars exploration.

Chirag Falor was the gold medalist of the 13th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Hungary in 2019. He also topped the American Mathematics competition in 2019.
