Sunny Leone REACTS To Kennedy Receiving Standing Ovation at MAMI: 'I Am Happy That...' | Exclusive
Sunny Leone opens up about Kennedy premiering in India and working with Anurag Kashyap.

After impressing audiences internationally, Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, featuring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat, made its India premiere at the Jio MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) Film Festival. The film was screened at a packed house and received a standing ovation. Leone, who plays the character of Charlie in the film, is elated with all the love that the film has been getting.

In conversation with News18, she said, “We have been to certain festivals including Cannes and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and the response from the audience has been amazing so coming to MAMI was a proud feeling. We are so happy to have been receiving such great reactions. Festival screening is something different because, at festivals, that’s what it is – you’re celebrating filmmaking. You’re celebrating the film. And it’s about the director and the cast and the entirety of the film. So, it’s a different type of feel when it’s a film being shown at a festival. I am happy that people like my character and they like my part and they are loving the film.”

The film tells the story of an insomniac ex-cop (played by Rahul Bhat), who dwells in different circumstances looking for redemption. The ex-cop, who is presumed dead for a long time, operates secretly for the corrupt system. Leone plays a laughing femme fatale in his life.

Talking about how she bagged the film, the actor said, “I remember Anurag called me and told me he had a role for me and wanted me to audition for it. Initially, I was nervous. Anurag was sitting with his team and I was standing there enacting a scene. After I finished, there was a long pause and suddenly he smiled. He was very happy and so was I (laughs).”

Leone, who made her Bollywood debut with the erotic thriller Jism 2 (2012), adds, “The idea of working with Anurag was in itself so exciting. I have always admired his style of filmmaking. He always tries to portray the actor in a different light and I think that is what he has done with me in Kennedy.”
