More than two weeks after its release, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal stands at a staggering Rs 835.9 crore at the global box office. Apart from the moolah it has been raking and the backlash it received for being what many felt was misogynistic, the film has led to widespread chatter on social media. Reactions of several members from the film fraternity have also added to the buzz surrounding the Ranbir Kapoor starrer. And the latest to join the bandwagon is Nikita Dutta, who shot to fame with Sandeep’s previous release, Kabir Singh (2019).
Sharing her thoughts on Animal, Nikita exclusively tells News18 Showsha, “I’ve watched the film. And I did congratulate Sandeep Reddy Vanga for the numbers that the film is making. It’s a huge success at the box office. I feel it’s a good revival for our industry after the pandemic.”
Much like Triptii Dimri who plays the other woman in the protagonist’s life in Animal, Nikita too played Kabir’s love interest in the second half of Kabir Singh. Admitting to how both these ‘other women’ were written with lots of nuanced complexities, Nikita opines, “I appreciated the character and that’s why I agreed to play it at that time. Not everybody gets it because people watched these films on the entertainment level. I was very happy with the character I played in Kabir Singh and Triptii’s character is similar here.”
Lauding Triptii, who became an overnight national sensation for her performance in Animal, Nikita remarks, “When I watched Animal, I hundred percent felt that Triptii stood out. She was absolutely amazing in the part that she played and you’ve to deeply watch the films to understand that our characters were written with a lot of nuance.”
Nikita began her acting career with a cameo appearance in Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014) but it was Kabir Singh that propelled her to wide popularity. Looking back at how the film opened doors for her, she says, “It was very unexpected. I didn’t anticipate the success that it got. For me, it was just playing any other character but when the film came out, it was a huge surprise for the makers and me.”
The Khakee: The Bihar Chapter (2022) and The Big Bull (2021) actor attributes the shift in her career to Kabir Singh and adds, “Everyone was surprised by how it was perceived by the audience and how much it was appreciated. I think that was a changing point in my career. Kabir Singh was the head-start of the transition that I was looking for in terms of concentrating on the films that I wanted to do. I really thank my stars for saying yes to Kabir Singh.”
So, will we see her collaborating with Sandeep again? “I hope so. I’m not getting into his filmmaking but as a person and director, he’s amazing to work with. If at all there’s something for me, I would love to collaborate with him in the future,” states the actor, who will next be seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s Dangey alongside Harshvardhan Rane.
