FC Goa’s forward Mark Sifneos may prefer to hurry a few defenders, but he has found himself in a spot of bother as he had leave Indian shores at the earliest on Sunday.

The Dutchman who had a fall out with his previous team’s management, the Kerala Blasters, found himself in this position after the Kochi based franchise complained to the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) that he was staying illegally.

Sifneos who had joined the Blasters after former Manchester United man Rene Meulensteen brought him to the club, found himself out of favour after the latter was replaced by former England goalkeeper David James.

Both parties then reportedly parted ways with mutual consent, but the Blasters felt slighted after he accepted an offer with FC Goa for the remainder of the Indian Super League season.

The 20-year old came on for the final eight minutes in FC Goa’s 3-4 home loss to Mumbai City FC. Goa coach Sergio Lobera had every intention of including him in the squad for Sunday’s game against the NorthEast United FC which ended in a 2-2 draw.

“Kerala Blasters have complained to the FRRO in Kochi that Sifneos cannot be in India and play for FC Goa since his (employment) visa was issued to play for Kerala Blasters. We tried to buy time but were clearly told by the FRRO (in Goa) that he must return home or face deportation,” said a club source told the Times of India.

Earlier, Sifneos himself has been vocal about his intentions of not returning to India after parting ways with the Kerala Blasters. Sifneos was reportedly looking for options in Europe.
