Sevilla lost 2-1 at Getafe on Sunday to lose their grip on fourth place in the Spanish league.
Getafe substitute Pedro Leon scored the winner with five minutes to play to help the hosts move five points clear of the relegation zone.
Sevilla have only won once in four rounds, opening the door for Valencia to move into fourth place and the last Champions League spot if it beats Espanyol later.
Alvaro Vazquez opened the scoring for Getafe from the penalty spot in the 28th minute after he was fouled by Diogo Figueras.
Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Kryhchowiak blasted the ball in from long range to level in the 66th, but Leon went on in the 77th and shortly after tapped in a rebound to grab the win.
Sevilla lost Stephane M'Bia and Iago Aspas to leg injuries.
Earlier, Almeria defender Michel Macedo scored twice in six minutes to spark a 2-1 comeback win at Cordoba.
Cordoba took the lead in the 10th when Federico Cartabia scored from a free kick. But Almeria emerged the better side after halftime, and Macedo blasted the equalizer into the top of the net after Wellington Silva set him up with an incisive pass in the 61st.
Five minutes later Macedo headed home Nabil Ghilas' cross at the far post to complete the turnaround.
The loss left Cordoba in the drop zone, while Almeria moved four points clear of danger.
Also later, Barcelona visit Athletic Bilbao aiming to capitalize on Atletico Madrid's 4-0 rout of leader Real Madrid on Saturday.
