Gurugram: Man Checks Into Hotel To Celebrate Birthday, Hangs Self On Insta Live; Wife Blames Female Friend

A 35-year-old man in Haryana’s Gurugram hanged himself from the ceiling fan in a hotel room, while recording and broadcasting the act through Instagram Live. The victim, identified as Vikram, checked into the hotel in Sector 38 of the city on Sunday evening, with a female friend to celebrate his birthday.

As per the media reports, the man allegedly died by suicide after the 20-year-old woman, who hails from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, left the room.

When the woman saw the post, she immediately informed the guest house staff who called the police. According to the police, the woman lives in a rented accommodation in Sector 39 and works at a real estate company in Gurugram.

The two became friends a few months ago.

However, the wife of the deceased has accused a woman of blackmailing her husband and forcing him to take the drastic measure. She also claimed that the woman was present in the room when he hanged himself and did nothing to stop him.

Police has filed a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), against the man’s friend on the complaint of his wife, Neeru, on Monday.

In her complaint, Neeru, a native of Hisar, said her husband Vikram had gone to a hotel at the call of his female friend to celebrate his birthday.

“At the hotel, my husband was forced to commit suicide and even record it on Instagram Live. She was constantly blackmailing Vikram and demanding money from him. She had some objectionable videos of both of them which she threatened to upload it online,” Neeru said in her complaint, according to police.

Further, Neeru also alleged the woman even forced Vikram to video call his family to show he was celebrating his birthday at the hotel.

In her complaint, Neeru claimed that Vikram was pursuing a course in pharmacology, where he is believed to have met the woman – a student herself.

“She tortured Vikram twice and forced him to kill himself,” she added.

As per the police, the couple lived with their two children in the Rajendra Park area.

“An FIR has been registered against Anshi, a native of Himachal Pradesh, as per the complaint. We are verifying the facts and action will be taken as per the law,” said Inspector Subhash Chand, SHO, Sadar Police Station.
