James Cameron Talks About 'Hectic' Post-Production Schedule Of Avatar 3
When asked to reveal the details of Avatar 3, James Cameron informed that the much-anticipated third sequel will hit the silver screens in 2025.

James Cameron’s Avatar franchise is one of the most-loved film series in Hollywood. With Avatar and its sequel Avatar: The Way Of Water, the film director has given the audience a sneak peek into the world of Pandora with splendid storytelling and spectacular visuals. The popularity surrounding the two highest-grossing sci-fi movies has established the fact that the Avatar franchise is far from over. In fact, there are three more Avatar sequels waiting in line. For now, James Cameron is busy with the post-production process of Avatar 3. In a recent interview, the filmmaker talked about the “hectic” post-production schedule and announced the release date of the upcoming three films.

At the 2023 Screen Production and Development Association conference in New Zealand, James Cameron engaged in a fun interaction about his three Avatar films with the host John Campbell. When asked to reveal the details of Avatar 3, Cameron revealed that the much-anticipated third sequel will hit the silver screens in 2025 because the makers were juggling jam-packed schedules. “We’re into a very hectic two years of post-production right now. So it will be Christmas of 2025,” he confirmed.

Back in June, Disney announced that the release of the three Avatar sequels was pushed back, with Avatar 5 expected to premiere in 2031. The time taken between the release of each sequel allowed the post-production team and visual effects department to pay special attention to the visual elements in each film and create a grand visual spectacle. Since the audience’s expectations are already at their peak, it seems that the makers will not compromise on the visual effects and hence the amount of time taken in the post-production process.

In fact, Avatar’s producer Jon Landau in an X (formerly Twitter) post wrote, “Each ‘Avatar’ film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect. The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025.”

Avatar 3 is expected to hit the big screens on December 19, 2025. Meanwhile, Avatar 4 will premiere on December 19, 2025, and the final one — Avatar 5 will be released on December 19, 2031, claims the Variety report. At the New Zealand press conference, James Cameron also added that he plans on taking up New Zealand citizenship and promised that the remaining Avatar films will be shot in the country.
