Phasmophobia: How to Find and Use the Monkey Paw Cursed Item
Did you find a Monkey Paw in Phasmophobia? This cursed possession allows users to make wishes that can force ghost hunts, revive dead teammates, drain sanity, and more. With each wish, players will receive a side effect that can impair them for the rest of the investigation. Here's how to use the Monkey Paw in Phasmophobia, where to find it, and what wishes to use.
Using the Monkey Paw

What is the Monkey Paw?

The Monkey Paw is a supernatural item that grants players' wishes. In Phasmophobia, there are a total of seven cursed possessions that can interact with the ghost, including the tarot cards. Because of this, players have a 1 in 7 chance to find a Monkey Paw as long as the difficulty is not set on Insanity. Players can speak or select a wish that affects the ghost, players, or environment. The number of wishes depends on the difficulty. Each wish will come with a negative side effect. The Monkey Paw can only be used within the investigation area.

How to Use the Monkey Paw

Find a Monkey Paw. Players have a 1 in 7 chance for a Monkey Paw to spawn in the map. This will vary depending on the map. For specific locations, see the Locations section. Once you have the Monkey Paw, make sure to hold it. The number of non-bent fingers tells you the amount of wishes you have to use. This changes depending on the difficulty level. 0x to 1x difficulty: 5 wishes 1.01x to 2x difficulty: 4 wishes 2.01x or higher difficulty: 3 wishes

Speak your wish. If you're using voice chat, you'll simply speak the wish. If you're using the text-based UI, you'll press your Primary Use key to click a category and then a wish. For a full list of wishes, see the next section. While you may have more than one wish opportunity, you can't wish for the same thing twice.

Prepare for the side effects. With each wish, you'll receive a side effect. Some side effects may be minor while others may be severe; it depends on the wish. Side effects include obscured vision, locked exit doors, muffled hearing, depleted sanity, and more. Setting up a crucifix may help you leave safely.

Monkey Paw Wishes

I wish to see the ghost. Saying or selecting this phrase will force a ghost event at its current location for 5 seconds. Once this time has passed, the ghost will start a cursed hunt. This will obscure the wisher's vision until the hunt ends.

I wish for activity/I wish the ghost would do something. Saying or selecting this phrase will double all and any ghost activity for the next 2 minutes. In return, the fuse box will break for the rest of the investigation and the exit door will be locked for 2 minutes.

I wish the ghost was trapped/I wish to trap the ghost. The ghost is teleported to its favorite room and locks it in there for one minute. In this time, the ghost is unable to hunt, move, or use any abilities. However, this will also lock the door of the wisher's current room for one minute.

I wish for sanity/I wish to be sane. This wish will set every player's sanity to 50%. However, sanity will drain 1.5x more quickly until the end of the investigation, and the ghost's favorite room will swap to a random room.

I wish to be safe. This wish will free the nearest blocked hiding spot, such as a closet or room. However, the lights will shatter in the current room, and the ghost will be able to hear the wisher and their active devices (such as the DOTS projector) until the end of the investigation.

I wish to leave. This wish unblocks all exit doors regardless of active hunts. However, the wisher's speed will decrease, and their vision will be reduced during this time.

I wish for life/I wish to revive my friend. This wish brings back a player from the dead, but it has a 50% chance of causing the wisher to die. If no players are dead, this wish can't be used.

I wish for knowledge. This wish will eliminate one wrong piece of evidence and the associated ghosts in the wisher's journal. The ghost will teleport to the wisher and start a cursed hunt. The wisher will have obscured vision and muffled hearing until death or the end of the investigation.

I wish for [weather]. You can say or select: clear sky, fog, rain, snow, or sunrise. This wish will change the weather, which causes all players to be temporarily blinded. This will also take 25% sanity from the wisher. If the wisher has less than 25% sanity, this wish can't be used.

I wish for anything. This wish grants one of the available wishes at random.
