Chicken Price Skyrockets In Hyderabad, Touches Rs 300 Per Kg From Rs 125 Within a Week
The recent spread of bird flu in Andhra Pradesh has also had a negative impact on chicken sales in Telangana

The price of chicken in Hyderabad has skyrocketed as the cost just went up from Rs 125 to Rs 150 per kg within a week and now touched 300 per kg. This increase has made it difficult for regular chicken consumers in Hyderabad to afford it.

The recent spread of bird flu in Andhra Pradesh has also had a negative impact on chicken sales in Telangana. Thus, to address the decline in sales, poultry traders have lowered the price.

Skinless chicken is now available between Rs 180 to Rs 200 per kg, while live chicken is priced between Rs 120 to Rs 160 per kg until February 10.

However, due to a sudden decrease in bird supply, especially during the Medaram Jatara festival, there is a high demand for chicken, leading to the surge in prices. Skinless chicken is now being sold between Rs 280 to Rs 300 per kg, and the price of live birds has reached Rs 180 per kg.

As a result of these high prices, foodies in Hyderabad are hesitant to purchase chicken, and sales have decreased by 40% in the last four days. Normally, Hyderabad records an average daily sale of 12,000 tonnes, but last Sunday it was only 6,000 tonnes.

“I thought of purchasing chicken as its price came down in recent times but we are not in a mood to buy it now as it is not at all affordable to purchase”, Ramesh, a private company employee said about the rise in chicken price.

“We hope that the prices will continue till the end of the summer season and will come down once there is a fall in the temperatures and birds from Andhra Pradesh and most of the parts in Telangana will arrive in Hyderabad regularly,” Basha, one of the poultry traders said.
