Telugu star Chiranjeevi is celebrating the completion of his 45 years in cinema. The actor made his debut in 1978 but gained fame as a notable actor after essaying the lead in the 1983 action film Khaidi. Chiranjeevi has starred in over 150 films across languages and is known for his amazing dancing skills. But did you know that the 1995 film Alluda Majaka directed by EVV Satyanarayana turned controversial over its storyline?
After the release of the film, Alluda Majaka got into a controversial scoop after communists and Hindu nationalists demanded a ban on the film as it contained a number of scenes portraying women in an obscene manner. When the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) banned the film two months after its release, the fans of the actor staged a protest in Hyderabad demanding the ban be lifted.
The CBFC eventually lifted the ban and asked the makers to edit out the objectionable parts of the film. The board re-censored the film and was released again. The film had, however, already run over 100 days in the theatres and was watched by a maximum number of moviegoers. This made the second censor process go in vain. The film turned out to be one of the hits of the year. Its first version and the second version are now reportedly available on YouTube.
Apart from Chiranjeevi, Alluda Majaka also starred Ramya Krishnan, Rambha, Kota Srinivas Rao, Lakshmi and Ooha in the crucial roles. It was produced by Devi Vara Prasad under the banner of Devi Films. The film was also remade in Kannada as Kiladi and was dubbed into Tamil as Rowdy Boss.
Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi in August announced his next film with Vassishta which is tentatively titled Meaga157. The film touted as fantasy entertainment is reported to be a sequel to his 1990 film Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari. The reports also suggest that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be sharing screen space with Chiranjeevi.
The Waltair Veerayya actor will next be seen in the crime thriller film, The Journalist. The film is directed by Vedanth Harsh and will also star Aryan Harsh and Aryan Harsh in pivotal roles.
