BANGALORE: The first day of the II PUC annual examinations (History and Computer Science) was marred by the debarring of 13 students who were caught allegedly indulging in malpractices in eight centres on Thursday. Bijapur topped the list with three students, followed by two each in Belgaum, Kolar and Dharwad. Bagalkot, Gulbarga, Hassan and Chickballapur had one student each debarred.Bangalore, however, had no cases of malpractice.“The first day was peaceful and the examinations were conducted without any hindrance. It is unfortunate that 13 students have been debarred. We can only hope that the rest of the exams go without any glitches,” said an official from the Department of PU Education.Close to 97,218 candidates wrote the exam in the city. They attributed ‘strict’ invigilation and vigilance as the reason for the peaceful conduct of the exams. “While the paper was easy, the invigilation was strict. I could finish the paper as I had prepared well,” said Manasa S, a science student of Aishwarya PU College who wrote the Computer Science paper. Those who attempted the History paper felt that the paper was lengthy. “It was okay. I fell short of time, so could not finish it,” said Sheetal Surendra, an arts student.Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner for Bangalore Urban district M K Ayyappa visited Oxford PU College and Dayananda Sagar College to supervise the security arrangements. On Friday, exams for Biology and Electronics will be held.
