BANGALORE: A day after Aadhar Chairman, Nandan Nilenkani, announced that one crore Unique Identification Numbers (UID) were already given out, Ashok Dalwai, Deputy Director General (Technology Center), Unique Identification Authority of India added that 18 lakh people have already been given cards in Karnataka and nearly 4 million have been enroled in the state.
Adding that this initiative would facilitate e-governance, Dalwai said that they would soon enter Bangalore to carry the process forward. "Nearly 85 per cent of Mysore and Tumkur districts have already been completed", he said and added that they would soon move on to other districts like Dharwad, Bijapur, Gulbarga and Yadgir. '1 million numbers by October'

Reiterating Nilenkani, Dalwai said that they would soon be able to churn out 1 million numbers by October 2011, and would carry on the momentum with which they are progressing. He also shared that they would like to complete the process by March 2012. Chief General Manager, Karnataka Telecom Circle, K Raghavan said that India Post would be able to fulfil the responsibility of delivering the number to homes across the state.

Adding to this, Post Master General (Karnataka Circle) Vasumitra, said that they already have 1000 computerised post offices in the state and is equipped for the task. He said they will soon have 9000 computerised post offices across the state for faster service.
