Gorur police arrested over 20 Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists when they tried to lay siege to the Hemavathi reservoir in Gorur protesting the release of water to Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
The protesters, who tried to trespass the premises of the reservoir were released in the evening. Earlier, the protestors staged a dharna in front of the main gate shouting slogans against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalilithaa. The protestors also set the tyres on fire at the entrance of the chief engineer’s office and the main gate of the reservoir.
Revanna Continues Stir
Former minister H D Revanna has continued to protest in front of the DC office against the release of water to Tamil Nadu on Sunday too. Revanna came with hundreds of workers from the inspection bungalow to the DC’s office and presented a memorandum in this regard.
The JD(S) workers seized the office of the chief engineer at Gorur and took out a torchlight protest march in in Hassan on Saturday. Protests was also witnessed in Alur, Sakleshpur, Arsikere and Belur on Sunday.
