NAGAPATTINAM: Three fishermen of Akkarapettai in Nagapattinam were reportedly attacked by a group of Sri Lankan fishermen and have sustained injuries. According to sources, 15 fishermen of Akkaraipettai ventured into the sea for deep sea fishing on August 15. When they were fishing in Indian waters on August 19, a group of about 30 Sri Lankan fishermen surrounded them and snatched the fish catch, mobile phones, fishing nets, GPRS instruments and other valuables. They had also attacked them with wooden logs and knives.Three fishermen - Meganathan, Palanisamy and Balaiah sustained injures. All the fishermen immediately returned to the shore. The injured were admitted to Nagai GH on Saturday. Accompanied by District Collector T Munusamy, Fisheries Minister K A Jayapaul visited Nagapattinam GH and consoled the victims. Regional Joint Director of Fisheries Subburaj, Assistant Director Venkataswamy and others were present.
