VIJAYAWADA: Four persons died and two others fell seriously ill when they reportedly consumed illicit liquor, at Brahmanaveedhi in One Town here on Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Edi Subrahmanyam (32), Kona Yesu (27), Sarepalli Koteswara Rao (55) and Karjurapu Durga Rao (38). The condition of two others, Tamada Prakash (45) and Rampalli Nagaraju (28), is said to be critical.All the six persons are from a poor background and said to be the sole breadwinners for their families. Subrahmanyam is a mechanic in the Railways, Yesu is a daily wage earner, Koteswara Rao is a watch-repairer, Durga Rao and Prakash run laundry shops and Nagaraju is a laundry worker. While five of them are residents of Brahmanaveedhi, Prakash lives in Autonagar. According to Nagaraju’s 14-year-old brother Sai Kumar, the six gathered for a party, at the invitation of Subrahmanyam, at a house near Durga Rao’s on Thursday evening.They went upstairs and consumed liquor, and later, left for their homes. It is said they developed complications by the time they reached home. They suffered from vomiting, motions and dizziness and family members to took them to nearby hospitals.In the case of the deceased, doctors referred them to the NRI hospital at Mangalagiri in Guntur district, saying their condition is critical. All the four died by the time they reached hospital. Nagaraju, who is undergoing treatment at the government general hospital here, said Subrahmanyam invited them for a party on the occasion of his birthday. He brought a bottle containing some liquid  which is white in colour, two other sachets of similar liquid and two cool drink bottles, he said.Another victim Prakash is being treated at Jyothirmai hospital at Tadigadapa near Vijayawada. In-charge deputy commissioner of prohibition and excise, SM Rajeswara Rao, said, “We do not know if it is illicit liquor or spirit. There is also no label on the bottle.”
