41 held in the city, PDS rice seized

CHENNAI: Following the strict instruction from the Government to curb smuggling of PDS rice to neighbouring States of Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Civil Supplies CID have arrested 41 persons and seized PDS rice worth Rs 5.53 lakh in the last four days in the State.Intensive raids and vehicle checks had been organised across the state since June 8. One of the main accused, Hakim alias Mohamed Hakim, who had attempted to smuggle 20 tons of PDS rice was detained under Black Market Act.
