HYDERABAD: The ongoing Air India stir has hit passengers from Hyderabad too. About 50 passengers from Hyderabad were stranded in Delhi as the early morning flight to Chicago (AI 127) was cancelled at the last minute. “The flight scheduled to fly from New Delhi at 2.30 a.m on Thursday was cancelled. The passengers were provided accommodation at a hotel near the Delhi international airport. They are expected to fly Friday morning. Those who want to cancel their tickets will get a full refund,” said an Air India spokesperson. The trouble in Delhi was preceded by a little confusion on Wednesday. The flight was to take off from Hyderabad to Delhi and then to Chicago. But due to the pilots’ strike, the Hyderabad leg of the flight was cancelled and all the passengers from the city were flown to Delhi in a Chennai-Delhi (AI 159) flight. The passengers, who booked tickets from Hyderabad to Chicago in Friday’s Air India flight, were also flown to Delhi in a separate Air India flight (AI 541/840) on Thursday. They are likely to be accommodated along with the already stranded passengers in the Friday m orning flight, the spokesperson said.“Further bookings for all the West-bound flights have been frozen till May 13 but operations are not cancelled,” said the official adding that, “Hyderabad has less to worry about compared to other major cities as most of our pilots here are regular AI pilots and not the erstwhile Indian Airlines pilots who are striking.”However, what is worrisome for the passengers is the uncertainty hanging over the departure of the flights. No one seems to know whether the two Air India international flights, one scheduled for Jeddah (AI-965) and the other for Chicago (AI-127) from Hyderabad on Friday, would actually take off.Meanwhile, the fresh salvo by the Kingfisher pilots __ several of them have reported sick on Thursday __ will have no impact in Hyderabad as the airline had suspended its operations from the city earlier in March.
