As many as 75 lakh persons are waiting for getting jobs at the employment exchanges of Tamil Nadu as on March 31, 2012.
Of the total number of persons (75,03,767) who have registered themselves with the employment exchanges, 36,85,594 are women—the ratio between men and women is almost equal.
By December 31, 2008, the total number of persons waiting in the employment exchanges was 55,11,542. Of them, 25,06,227 were women.
The number of persons who had registered with the employment exchanges went up to 71,84,486 by June 30,2011. Of this, 33,84,109 were women.
According to the data provided by the State government, the community-wise break-up of job seekers on the rolls of employment exchanges in Tamil Nadu as on March 31, 2012 is as follows: SCs (Arunthathiyars) - 1,25,778, ST (27,852), MBCs (16,58,553), BCs (Muslims - 2,22,958), BCs (31,85,278) and others (5,98,861).
The break-up of job-seekers in the special categories is as follows: Burma repatriates (752), Ceylon repatriates (2,489), professional and executive standard (6,83,584), dependents of ex-servicemen (21,874), destitute widows (9,180), ex-servicemen (29,220), inter-caste married (18,083), differently-abled (1,03,321).
